Started in 2015, Canyon Angels was founded by entrepreneur and investor Timothy Kelley and has since grown to a network of over 55 accredited investors. Canyon Angels is unique in that we allow undergraduate students the opportunity to participate in the due diligence process guided by our investor mentors. To date, approximately 19 different ventures have been funded by our members totaling over $2.5 million.The primary focus of Canyon Angels is to fund highly scalable startups that allows accredited investors to diversify their portfolio. We serve as a filtering mechanism to find desirable investment opportunities locally in Arizona and nationally. We syndicate deals from other angel networks and funds bringing our investors the best companies.
We are also excited to announce that we have relocated to the brand new GCU Innovation Center. This Co-working space allows start-ups to take base in a central location with amenities including a hotel, gym, bar and restaurant, student intern workers and direct access to recent graduate talent.
Canyon Angels hosts six investor meeting where CEO’s pitch their companies from September through April with consistent deal flow through the “off-season.” One of the meetings includes the Canyon Angels x GCU Innovation Center Angel Summit in February.
Angel Capital Association
Canyon Angels are a charter member of the Angel Capital Association. The Angel Capital Association is the trade association of angel investment groups in North America. American Capital Association. Founded by angel investment groups in the United States and Canada to help maximize the success of group based angel investors, ACA accomplishes its mission by providing professional development, best practices, networking and collaboration opportunities for angel investors who belong to member angel groups. Tim Kelley has over 20 years of experience as an Entrepreneur in Real Estate and Project Related Finance in Mexico, South America, the US and Africa (Angola). He served as Founder, Chairman and CEO of KCA International Construction and Facilities Management for over 14 years and managed over $200 million dollars of projects in Mexico and over 2 million square feet of office, commercial and residential space throughout Latin America.
Paul Waterman teaches Entrepreneurial Studies and Business Strategy at Grand Canyon University. Paul Waterman’s passions include teaching and mentoring the next generation of entrepreneurs, growing the start-up ecosystem anywhere it may flourish, and applying agile methodologies and design thinking to any process that needs innovation. He has had extensive experience in international business specifically in the real estate sector. He loves to enjoy life and find the beauty that exists within it.
David focuses his practice on startup and emerging businesses particularly in various technology markets. This includes counseling business owners from entity formation through raising capital and company growth, and on business associations with other partnerships, distributors, licensees, and general business relationships. David spent the first thirty years of his professional career in sales and operations management of high technology startups giving him a unique perspective on advising business owners, investors, and others in the business world.
Michael works with select companies as an advisor, legal counsel and periodically serves in executive and board capacities. Michael’s practice is focused primarily on corporate and commercial representation, securities, finance and venture capital, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance matters, and all aspects of counseling emerging companies. He represents both issuing companies and investors in a large variety of financing transactions.
Randy Gibb is Dean of the Colangelo College of Business at Grand Canyon University (GCU), Phoenix, AZ. Under his leadership since 2014, the business college has moved forward with the vision of Inspiring Free Markets and Purpose for Prosperity and Business as a Force for Good.
Jerry Colangelo is an American businessman and sports executive. He formerly owned the Phoenix Suns of the NBA, the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA, the Arizona Sandsharks of the Continental Indoor Soccer League, the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League and the Arizona Diamondbacks of Major League Baseball.
